How to stream media from a Sony PS3 to a Mac

With the introduction of next-gen game consoles much like Sony PS3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360, more people want to stream media. Many people have asked how to stream media from a PS3 to a Mac. So after much searching I have found how to do this, in this example we have a Mac which is to act as the media streaming server.
Media streaming is so popular now as you are able to play media files like, music, videos, and photos across your local network. By doing it this way you save time and money and you do not need transport these files the old fashioned way.
Both the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 use DLNA, which is an open standard file sharing protocol which relies on Universal Plug and Play.
