FRAUDSTERS are using top-level internet technology in a bid to dupe thousands of bank customers.
They send emails claiming to be from the Halifax, telling customers their online banking has been suspended and they must re-register giving their details.
But last night Halifax said it was fake and warned customers not to respond.
The emails carry the Halifax logo and the link leads customers to a site which appears identical to the real thing.
Once armed with a customer's details, the conmen can access accounts.
A security source at the Halifax said the conmen are using the very latest technology to build websites and run them.
He added: "The thing to remember is the fraudsters are mass emailing and have no idea if you are a customer or not."
The bank say anyone who has accessed one of the websites should contact their branch for advice.
